Varanasi - at the banks of the Ganges

Varanasi temples at the Ganges

Varanasi (Benares) is the holiest place of Pilgrimage in Hindu's beliefe. Each year thousands and thousands of  pilgrims come  to the banks of "Mother Ganges" to take a ritual bath, to pray in one of the 1600 temples and places of cult  or to die here.

The visit with our Indian friends and our observations in the different temples and especially at the banks of the Ganges in Varanasi gave us deep insides into the spiritual world of Hinduism. In India religion is a way of life. It is an integral part of the entire Indian tradition and permeates every aspect of life. Hinduism is the dominant faith, practiced by over 80% of the population. But India is a secular state. People of many religions freely live here.
