| The Meridian Gate (Chinese: Wumen - "men" = "gate") is the main gate south of the forbidden city. It was an central point for ceremonial celebrations as well as for official communcation from the emperor and the imperial couts. But is was also a place , were officials were punished and even executed by throuwing them out of the window! |
